Second chances and renewed hope for brighter futures for inmates were underscored by the speakers at the 10th Annual Learning Celebration on Tuesday evening at Ellsworth Correctional Facility.

As a team, Barton Community College and the Kansas Department of Corrections are a force to be reckoned with, giving inmates the opportunity to improve themselves through education while incarcerated.

Artists at Barton Community College got a chance to showcase their talents at the annual Russell Original Art Review Exhibition at the Russell 4-H Building.  The show ran from Oct. 10 through 12 and Barton students received awards.

Barton Community College will present a student recital of instrumental and vocal performances at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30 in the Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel, located in the Fine Arts Building, F-157.  The recital is free.

Barton Community College will host a blood drive from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31 in the Technical Building in room T-186, the Case New Holland Training Building.

Editors Jamie Oss and Teresa Johnson of Barton Community College’s annual literary publication, Prairie Ink, have begun accepting entries for its sixth edition. 

The aim of the publication is to provide a venue for local authors to showcase their creative writing talents.

For people who have ever thought about picking up carpentry or woodworking as a hobby or for those who are just wanting to enhance their existing skillset, Barton Community College is offering woodworking courses from 6 to 9:45 p.m. on Mondays from Nov. 3 to Feb. 23 at Ellsworth High School, 211 W. 11th St. in Ellsworth.

Barton Community College will offer citizenship classes from 10 a.m. to noon and a night class session from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Nov. 4 through Jan. 29 at the Center for Adult Education 1025 Main St., Great Bend in room 208.
