Agriculture, like any endeavor, is bombarded with numbers and statistics.  Percentages, averages, normal, total, ratings, and a variety of other terms are constantly reported and analyzed.  While they may be useful, their real value is only apparent if you understand where they come from and how they are determined.  One short column can hardly describe all this with adequate perspective.  So today, let’s start discussing weather data but first some definitions.

Board of Trustee ENDs report: ‘Barton Experience’

The Barton Community College Board of Trustees gathered Tuesday evening for its regular meeting and discussed one of its eight overarching goals, known as ENDs. The one up for discussion this month was “Barton Experience.”

Barton Community College will host the 14th Annual Jack Kilby Science Day from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on November 20 in the Fine Arts Building at Barton Community College. High School juniors and seniors, students with appropriate Individual Educational Programs, high school science and technology instructors and appropriate administration are all invited to this free event.

LaVonne Gerritzen’s legacy at Barton Community College is one of longevity and adaptability. As technology changed over the years since she started in 1974, so did she.

“I’ve been here so long and have seen so many changes,” she said. “I’ve touched nearly all areas of the college and I got to work with so many people here, not just people in my area.”

The first Barton Community College Student Recital of the school year will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, October 26 in the Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel, located in the Fine Arts Building, F-157.  The recital is free and open to the public. Children under five years of age are discouraged from attending.

The Barton Planetarium will host “Journey to a Billion Suns” at 7 p.m. October 23 in the Barton Community College Planetarium located in the Science Building.

"Journey to a Billion Suns" is a full-dome video experience taking viewers through time and history, explaining the basic technologies of star mapping and on a fascinating journey along the numerous features of the Milky Way.
