Barton Community College is slashing prices on online courses for its summer sessions for Kansas High School students and graduating seniors from $150, to the face-to-face price of $118. That’s a savings of 21 percent per credit hour. A list of online courses that qualify for the sale can be found here: bartonccc.edu/online/programs/calendar. Career technical education (CTE) courses are still being offered at no tuition charged for high school students through a state program called Excel in CTE.
Coordinator of Community Education Karly Little said the Summer Sale is designed to help high school students and graduating seniors save money and make headway on their college educations. High school sophomores and juniors may have the option to take the courses as dual credit, but Little said students should check with their high school counselor to see whether or not the class would count on their high school transcript and how it could impact their class schedules later on.
“These summer sessions are a great way for high school students to explore classes that they might not have access to during the school year and for the outgoing senior class it’s just one more way they can save money as they venture off on their college journey,” she said.
In addition to the discount on the credit-hour rate, some classes utilize low-cost (under $50) or no-cost textbooks, helping students in these classes save even more money this summer. A list of these programs can be found by visiting: https://www.bartonccc.edu/oer.
Students can take classes a la carte or work toward earning an associate degree or certificate. Students can access online courses 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
There is a wide array of courses available. All sessions are open for enrollment from now until the day before the class starts. The summer session schedule is as follows:
• Extended Session (12 weeks): May 24, 2021 – August 15, 2021
• Session 1 (6 weeks): May 24, 2021 – July 4, 2021
• Session 2 (8 weeks): May 31, 2021 – July 25, 2021
• Session 3 (8 weeks): June 14, 2021 – August 8, 2021
• Session 4 (6 weeks): June 28, 2021 – August 8, 2021
