Barton Community College is launching a new Scale Technician program at the Grandview Plaza campus this fall and invites interested students and community members to learn more from 1-3 p.m. on March 13 at 100 Continental Drive, Grandview Plaza.

Students can meet with the Scale Technician faculty and check out the classroom and lab space. The new training program features a 27-credit hour certificate that can be completed in one semester and is designed to help students enter the weights and measures workforce immediately.

Scales are a vital part of the agriculture industry and many other commercial businesses, but installing, maintaining, and certifying them is an often overlooked skill. Scales are used daily at feed yards, grain elevators, grocery stores, packing companies, and in many other industries.

Scales techs are in high-demand as the current workforce approaches retirement age. This program opens opportunities for those interested in starting a career or looking to advance their careers.
