Barton Community College recently hosted a celebration honoring members of the All-Kansas Academic Team in the Cavanaugh Room on campus.

The event recognized students whose outstanding academic achievements have distinguished them among scholars across Kansas. Honorees included James Braithwaite, Kodi Greer, Perla Lopez, Alaina Eck, Xitlally Mendez, Yoonhee Kim, and Ancilleno Solomon, representing Barton’s Phi Theta Kappa chapters Phi Psi, Beta Nu Rho, and Beta Phi Eta.

The All-Kansas Academic Team program highlights high-achieving community college students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and community service.

Mendez spoke about the importance of education and its impact on future generations.

“Education is opportunity, education is advocacy, education is freedom, education is independence,” she said.

Braithwaite reflected on how his experience at Barton helped shape his future goals.

“Community college didn’t just prepare me for the future,” he said. “It helped me start figuring out what I want that future to look like.”

Faculty, staff, and guests gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of these students and their contributions to Barton and the state of Kansas.

The college commends these scholars for their dedication and excellence both in and out of the classroom.
