Barton Community College Life Science Professor Alex Oleg Ravitskiy, DVM, PhD, recently shared his expertise with educators and healthcare professionals from across the country as a presenter at the 2026 Anatomage Conference in Santa Clara, Calif.
“Being asked to present was a great honor and an exciting opportunity to share some of the teaching ideas and experiences I’ve developed at Barton with other educators and Anatomage users,” he said. “At the same time, I was able to learn from others, exchange ideas, and bring new inspiration back to my students and colleagues across multiple fields at Barton. For Barton, my participation helps strengthen our academic programs and helps showcase Barton as an institution that supports innovation and professional development.”
The conference brought together leaders from the education and healthcare industries to exchange ideas, explore innovative teaching practices, and discuss new approaches to educating the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Ravitskiy’s presentation, “Architecting Presets for Clinical Skills: A PICC Line Case Study,” showcases a customized guide he created to share his knowledge of building and using presets in Anatomage technology. His presentation used a peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) line as a case study to demonstrate how educators can design presets to support clinical skills instruction and create more intentional, interactive learning experiences for students.
The opportunity marked another recognition of Ravitskiy’s innovative approach to anatomy education and his commitment to using technology to make complex concepts more accessible to students.
Ravitskiy previously received the National Anatomage Outstanding Teacher Award in the undergraduate category, an honor recognizing educators for exceptional dedication and innovation in teaching anatomy and medical sciences. The award drew nominations from across the U.S., with winners selected in high school, undergraduate, and graduate/post-graduate categories.
As part of the award selection process, educators were asked to submit a lesson plan incorporating Anatomage technology and demonstrate how it shaped their teaching approach and engaged students. Ravitskiy was recognized for creating an engaging and transformative learning environment and using advanced technology to enhance anatomy education.
At Barton, Ravitskiy regularly incorporates the Anatomage Table into his curriculum. The technology allows students to explore highly detailed, three-dimensional representations of the human body and interact with anatomy in ways that extend beyond traditional textbooks and models.
His invitation to present at the 2026 conference represented a progression from being nationally recognized for his use of Anatomage technology in the classroom to sharing his knowledge and techniques with fellow educators and healthcare professionals.
Through the customized guide he developed for the conference, Ravitskiy provided attendees with a practical resource they could take back to their own classrooms and programs, extending the impact of his work beyond Barton.
The conference also gave Ravitskiy the opportunity to connect with other educators and healthcare professionals, explore emerging ideas in anatomy and clinical education, and bring new ideas and best practices back to Barton.
“Conferences like this help us stay current with new technologies, teaching strategies, and innovative approaches, but ultimately, it comes back to our students,” he said.
Ravitskiy said he will strive to always stay on the cutting edge of technology and use clinical applications and other innovative teaching methods to help students better understand the human body and prepare for careers in healthcare and other STEM fields.
“My goal is to move students beyond simply memorizing anatomical structures and help them understand relationships, pathways, clinical applications, and how what they are learning connects to real-world healthcare situations,” he said. “Bringing those new ideas back to Barton helps us provide a more engaging, meaningful, and relevant learning experience."
