Barton Community College’s Shafer Art Gallery will host a “Toad Abode” ceramic workshop for kids ages 5-12 from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, May 14 in the gallery. This event is in conjunction with the Gallery’s exhibit “Frogs: Sounding the Future” featuring photographs from National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore. This exhibit is being presented in conjunction with the Kansas Wetlands Education Center. The exhibit runs from May 13 through June 17. The reception for the exhibit will be from 6-8 p.m. on May 20.

After viewing the frog exhibit at the Shafer Gallery and learning about characteristics of frogs and toads, attendees will create clay “toad abodes” for their home gardens or backyards in the Barton ceramics lab under the instruction of Barton Ceramics Instructor Bill Forst. Then, from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, May 21 the participants will decorate them with watercolor in the Shafer Gallery before they take them home.

All children must be accompanied by an adult. The workshop is free but space is limited. To sign up, contact Shafer Gallery Assistant Scott Beahm at beahms@bartonccc.edu or (620) 792-9242.
