Barton music student Taylor Lampe will play trumpet in the 2016 Kansas Intercollegiate Orchestra in conjunction with the Kansas Music Educators Association Conference to be held Feb. 25-27 in Wichita. The orchestra will present its concert at 2:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26 in the Century II Concert Hall in Wichita. She will be among 72 college students representing 15 Kansas universities and is only one of five participants representing community college students throughout the state.

The orchestra will be under the direction of Takao Kanayama, a frequent guest conductor of professional orchestras around the world, including the Japan Philharmonic and the National Symphony Orchestra.

Lampe plans on attending Kansas State University next fall as a music education major. She is a 2013 graduate of Great Bend High School and participates in Hilltop Singers, Pep Band, Jazz Band, Concert Band and Concert Choir.

Lampe is also the president of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) at Barton. The eight-member group will be attending the Kansas Music Educators Convention on Feb. 25. The students will attend workshops, concerts and network with Kansas colleges to allow Barton students an opportunity to visit with four year institutions they might attend after graduating from Barton.
