Barton Community College will host its ninth annual Sidewalk Art Contest May 2-4 on the sidewalk outside the Shafer Art Gallery.

The contest is open to anyone who wants to participate. Artists need to register and pick up their free chalk at the Shafer Gallery between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on any of the three days. Artists must have their work completed by 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 4.

The contest will be judged by Barton art instructors. The pieces can be done by individuals or by several artists on a team. There will be three $50 Great Bend Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development gift certificates awarded to the top three drawings. If a team wins, its members will split the award.

“Anyone is able to come participate in this artistic endeavor,” Barton Art Instructor Steve Dudek said.  “The contest shows the creative side of a lot of different people.”
