Barton Community College will host its eighth annual Sidewalk Art Contest May 4-6 on the sidewalk outside the Shafer Art Gallery.

The contest is open to all residents of Barton County.  Artists wishing to participate need to register and pick up their free chalk at the Shafer Gallery between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on any of the three days.  Artists must have their work completed by 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 6.

The contest will be judged by Barton art instructors. The pieces can be done by individuals or by several artists on a team. Prizes to be awarded are three $100 gift certificates.  The winning entrant will be able to choose between a Great Bend Chamber of Commerce or Barton Bookstore gift certificate.  If a team wins, its members will split the award.

“It involves people in the whole county, and they're able to come participate in an artistic endeavor,” Barton Art Instructor Steve Dudek said.  “The contest shows the creative side of a lot of different people.”
