Barton makes it back-to-back double digit games with 11-1 win over Cowley
The Barton Community College women’s soccer team continued to score at an amazing pace, earning an 11-1 win over Cowley College Saturday in Jayhawk Conference play on the heels of a 14-0 win over Dodge City 3 days earlier. The contest was slated for Cougars Fields on the campus of Barton but due to heavy rains the previous day, the contest was moved to Memorial Stadium in Great Bend. The 11 goals scored against Cowley was the 3rd highest in school history to follow up a record-setting effort in the 14-0 win. Barton improved to 2-0 in the conference and 6-2 overall with the win. The Cougars will be at Hesston Tuesday in a 5:30 pm Region VI contest.

Highlights
Yesenia Garcia had another huge game for the Cougars recording her 2nd straight hat trick and adding 2 more assists. That gave her 6 goals and 7 assists in 2 games this past week. She started the scoring with a goal just 2 minutes into the contest and added 2 more by half. The Cougars scored 3 times in the opening 8 minutes capped by a Garcia goal on a penalty kick. Theresa Crane scored between Garcia’s 2 goals and added 2 more following the penalty kick as both Garcia and Crane had 3 goals by halftime. Flavia Bernardes scored 3 times in the 2nd half as 3 different Cougars recorded a hat trick in the game. Paige Christiansen and Nataleigh Cliff each added goals for Barton as well.

The Cougars put 26 shots on the Tigers’ goal during the game firing 41 shots in all. Cowley was able to get off 8 shots in the contest putting 4 of those on goal with Klarissa Harter saving 3 of them.

The Cougars will take what has been an offensive machine the past 2 games to Hesston Tuesday for a Region VI contest. Hesston is not in the Jayhawk Conference but the game is important for Region VI standings and subsequent seeding for the playoffs at the end of the year. Hesston is 0-1 in the region and 0-4 overall. The Larks have allowed a double digit this year in a 10-0 loss to Butler in the team’s only region contest.
