Garcia ties school record; Harter breaks mark as Barton equals season-high win total
The Barton Community College women’s soccer team continued its record breaking season at Coffeyville Tuesday with a 3-0 blanking of the Red Ravens at Veterans Field. The win improved Barton to 10-3 on the season, equaling the most wins in a season for the Cougars achieved on a pair of occasions – most recently last year. In the process sophomore Yesenia Garcia scored her 36th career goal as a Cougar, matching the school record set by Elaine Fontes in 2005-06. Sophomore Goalkeeper Klarissa Harter posted her 10th career shutout to also set a Barton record. Barton is now 5-1 in the Jayhawk Conference. Barton will return home in an effort to break the school record for wins in a season when the Cougars host Cloud in Jayhawk action Saturday at 2 pm.

Highlights
Garcia equaled the school record just 11 minutes into the contest Tuesday with a goal on a through ball from Sarah Whiteside. It was the 10th career assist for Whiteside – 2nd only to Garcia’s 17 career assists. That would be all the scoring Barton would get until less than 20 minutes remained in the game.

Flavia Bernardes kept her hot play as of late going with a goal and assist in the 2nd half on the heels of a 3-goal, 3-assist game the last time out. Bernardes made it 2-0 with 18 minutes left on an assist from Nataleigh Cliff. Cliff scored the final goal on a Bernardes assist just a few minutes later. Cliff now has 5 goals in her last 3 games.

The Cougars defense didn’t allow the Red Ravens many shots and the ones that did get on goal were saved by Harter for Barton’s 6th shutout this season. It was the 10th career shutout for Harter which set a record for most career shutouts at Barton, topping Laura Henkenmeier.

The Cougars will look for win No. 11 when Cloud brings its 2-10 overall record and 2-4 Jayhawk mark onto Cougar Fields.  A win would break a tie at the top of the single season wins chart with the 2007 and 2003 team.
