Cougars win 2nd straight 9-0 outing; with for 9th time this year
The Barton Community College women’s soccer team continues to score at a high pace, earning its 2nd straight 9-0 win in Jayhawk Conference play, this time over Allen County in Iola Saturday. This comes on the heels of a 9-0 win over Garden City Wednesday. The win pushed the Cougars to 9-3 for the year and 4-1 in the Jayhawk. The 9 wins are just 1 shy of a school record. The Cougars tied that record last year with 10 wins. Barton will get a chance to match that mark with a win at Coffeyville Tuesday.

Highlights
Flavia Bernardes and Nataleigh Cliff both had big games for the Cougars in the win. Bernardes scored 3 times in the win and added 3 assists. Cliff scored 4 goals for the Cougars, including the 1st 2 of the game less than 10 minutes into the contest as Barton took a 6-0 lead to half. Yesenia Garcia continued to score points as well for the Cougars collecting a goal and 3 assists. Theresa Crane scored the Cougars other goal and added an assist. Whitney Smith had an assist as well for the Cougars.

The Cougars have already bested several scoring marks this year including most goals in a game (14 v Dodge) most goals in a season (65) and most assists in a season (55) as well as game (10 v Dodge). Barton has scored 8 or more goals in 6 of its 12 games including in 5 of the past 6.

In addition to the team records, Garcia is closing in on the career record for goals at Barton. She has 14 this season to go with her 21 last year for a 35. That is 1 shy of the record of 36 by Elaine Fontes in 2005-06. Garcia holds the single game mark of 7 set last year while Fontes has the single season mark of 23. Garcia already holds all the assists records with game (5 v Dodge), season (15 so far this year) and career (17 total). The old marks for season and career were 7, which Garcia nearly matched in the single game.

Barton will look to tie the school record for wins Tuesday at Coffeyville, which is 4-5 overall this year but just 1-4 in the Jayhawk.
