Barton wins 3 straight in Texas; moves to 3-1 on season
The Barton Community College women’s soccer team had to wait nearly a week to resume play after a tough 3-1 loss to start the season, but the Cougars got the sour taste out of their mouths in a hurry, sweeping all 3 games they played this past weekend in Texas. Barton won 2 games at the Cedar Valley Classic in Lancaster Texas then took a road win over Mountain View to end the Texas trip. Barton is now 3-1 on the season and will be back on the road for 2 more games before finally returning home Sept. 10 to start Jayhawk Conference play by hosting Dodge City.

Highlights
Barton turned a competitive contest into a route early in the 2nd half Friday on the opening day of the Cedar Valley Classic. Barton ended with an 8-1 win over Hill College (Texas) to start. Barton took a 1-0 lead 18 minutes into the contest on a Yesenia Garcia goal assisted by Sarah Whiteside. The game stayed 1-0 until the final minutes of the half when Nataleigh Cliff scored just 2 minutes prior to half on an assist from Theresa Crane. The Cougars put the contest out of reach with a string of goals to start the 2nd half. Barton scored 4 minutes into the half never went more than 8 minutes without a goal as it built a 7-1 with just less than 20 minutes to play in the game. Barton added another goal in the final 5 minutes for the 8-1 final. Garcia, Cliff, and Crane all scored 2 goals in the win with Garcia and Crane each adding 2 assists as well.

Things weren’t as easy Saturday as Barton held off Cedar Valley by a 1-0 score. The Cougars scored with 15 minutes to play in the opening half when Crane scored for the 3rd time on the road trip off an assist from Cliff. Barton’s Klarissa Harter recorded 7 saves in the Cougars shutout win.

Barton finished the trip Sunday in Dallas with a 3-2 win over Mountain View. Barton led 1-0 early in the contest on a Flavia Bernardes goal from Betsy Dreiling but Mountain View evened the score at 1-all at half and took a 2-1 lead in the 2nd half. But the Cougars scored the final 2 goals of the contest as Garcia and Crane each found the net for the come-from-behind win.
