Cougars lose to No. 17 Hutchinson in Jayhawk West play
The Barton Community College volleyball team wasn’t able to pull off the upset Wednesday night at the Barton Gym, falling in Jayhawk West play to ranked Hutchinson. Barton lost in 3 games to Hutchinson, 25-20, 25-17, 25-20. The Cougars are now 1-5 in the West and 9-16 overall while Hutchinson stays perfect in the West with a 6-0 mark and a 14-11 overall record. Barton will back at home Saturday for a noon start time with Garden City in West play. Barton won at Garden earlier this year. The Broncbusters are 1-5 in the West and 6-16 overall.
Highlights
Barton was in every game but was not able to pull out a win in any of the three. In the opening game Hutch turned a 19-18 lead into a 25-20 win. Barton led in the 2nd game at 13-11 before Hutch finished on a 14-4 run to win 25-17. Barton was again in the 3rd game late, leading Hutch 20-19 before the Blue Dragons scored 6 straight to close out the match with a 25-20 win.
The Cougars were led by Amber Hockman and Cenquis Rockett with 6 kills each in the game. Mengya Wang led Barton with 20 assists while she and Ana Paulo Pago each had 7 digs. Rockett led Barton with 6 blocks followed by Wang and Laura Macek with 5 each.
Barton will now begin its 2nd time around the conference when Garden City visits Saturday. The Cougars only win the 1st time through came against Garden on the Broncbusters home floor. The Cougars are 1 of 3 teams with just 1 win in the conference at the halfway point.
