Barton loses to ranked Butler in volleyball
The Barton Community College volleyball team dropped a home contest Monday at the Barton Gym, falling to the No. 3 team in NJCAA Division II. Barton lost to Butler 25-20, 25-12, 25-19, falling to 8-10 overall this year while Butler improves to 18-2. What is usually a Jayhawk West battle wasn’t this time around as the volleyball conference are aligned with the school’s division. All the Division I schools are in the West and the Division II schools in the East. Volleyball is the only sport this alignment will be used for. The Cougars will be back in West action Wednesday when they travel to Garden City to take on the Broncbusters at 6:30 pm.
Highlights
The Cougars fell behind early in the opening game of the match, 8-2, and trailed by that margin much of the contest. Barton rallied late with 5 straight points to cut a 23-14 score to 23-19 before losing 25-20. The Cougars trailed all the entire way in the 2nd game, losing 25-12 to the Grizzlies. Barton fell behind early in the 3rd game and trailed 20-11 at one point before rallying to cut the margin to 21-18. Butler closed out the match at 25-19.
Barton was led in hitting by Amber Hockman with 8 kills. Mengya Wang had 8 assists and 3 blocks for the Cougars while Laura Macek led Barton with 2 service aces and 6 blocks.
Barton will back in action when they travel to Garden City Wednesday for Jayhawk West action. Garden is 1-2 in the West and 5-12 overall. Baron is 0-3 in the West.
