Kohler reassumes head volleyball coaching duties
A familiar face will be on the sidelines next season for the Barton Community College volleyball team. Barton Athletic Director Kurt Kohler will be guiding the Cougars next fall in addition to the AD duties. Kohler coached Barton volleyball for 1 season before resigning to become the Athletic Director. He will replace Ryan Parker, who moved on James Madison University to become an assistant coach at the NCAA Division I school.

“I am looking forward to my return to the Barton Volleyball program.” Coach Kohler said. "I have missed working directly with student-athletes on the court during the last 2 years, and when the opportunity presented itself for me to remain as the athletic director and get back into coaching, I jumped at the opportunity.”

Kohler coached the Cougars in 2005, guiding the team to a 36-11 record and earning Coach of the Year honors in the Jayhawk West. Kohler also coached at Allen County in the Jayhawk East before his time at Barton, earning Coach of the Year honors in the East once as well. He is the only coach to earn that honor in both the East and West.

“The success of the Barton Volleyball program is unmatched nationally, and I’m excited to continue improving this program,” Coach Kohler said. “We have had some great coaches throughout the history of Barton, and I appreciate them laying the foundation for a program that I have been granted the opportunity to continue building.”

Last season the Cougars won the Jayhawk West and the Region VI Championship on its way to the NJCAA National Tournament. Barton went 3-1 at the tournament, losing in the 1st round before winning its way to 9th place. The Cougars ended the year with a 40-8 record.
