Cougars set school record for goals in 11-0 win; move to 7-0 on season
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team set a school record for most goals scored in game as well as largest margin of victory with an 11-0 blanking of Dodge City to start Jayhawk Conference play Wednesday at Cougar Fields. The previous record for most goals in a contest was 9 achieved on 6 different occasions. The No. 4 ranked Cougars will be back at home Saturday when they play host to Cowley College in a 4 pm start. The win was the 24th straight Jayhawk Conference win for the Cougars.

Highlights
Playing into a 20 mph wind, the Cougars took a 1-0 lead 15 minutes into the contest when Marcello Carminatti scored his 1st of 2 goals in the game on header in the box from Tom Hurdle. Barton would ass two more goals in the half as Leandro Felicio and Martin Narvaez each scored for a 3-0 halftime lead.

With the wind at its back, Barton assaulted the Dodge goal in the 2nd half. Carminatti scored 2 minutes into the half and Tarek Khalidi added another less than 1 minute later and Barton led 5-0. The Cougars would score 6 times in the 2nd half as Oscar Narvaez made matched his brother Martin with a goal, Felicio added his 2nd goal Hurdle scored a goal and Tom Shaw had 2 goals – the last coming with just less than 10 minutes to play for the 11-0 lead. Clay Crandon scored Barton 10th goal that broke the school record with 13 minutes to play.

Meanwhile the Barton defense didn’t allow the Conquistadors too many attempts at goal. Dodge got off just 3 shots in the contest – only 1 on goal. Barton fired 45 shots during the contest – 23 of which were on goal for the 11 goals.

The Cougars will look to make it 25 straight Jayhawk Conference wins this weekend when Cowley comes in for a 4 pm start. Cowley is in its 1st year as a program and will bring a 1-2 record in to the contest – all conference contests.
