Barton keeps Jayhawk Conference winning streak alive with 6-0 win over Cowley
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team continued its recent dominance of the Jayhawk Conference with a 6-0 blanking of Cowley College Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Great Bend. Due to the heavy rain that fell a day earlier, the game was moved from Cougar Fields on the campus of Barton to the high school football stadium in Great Bend. Barton won its 25th straight Jayhawk Conference tilt in the process with its newest member Cowley becoming the latest victim in that string. Cowley is in its 1st year playing soccer. The No. 4 Cougars (2-0, 8-0) did not allow the Tigers a shot on goal the entire contest as Cowley (1-3, 1-3) managed just 2 shots in the game.

Highlights
Marcello Carminatti recorded a hat trick in the win, netting the Cougars 1st goal of the game and adding 2 more in the 2nd half. Carminatti scored just 7 minutes into the contest on an assist from Leandro Felicio. Carminatti had the assist in Barton’s 2nd goal feeding Cougar back line player Ous Senghore for a 2-0 lead prior to half.

In the 2nd half Carminatti scored the opening 2 goals for Barton as the Cougars took a 4-0 lead in the contest. Barton made it 3-0 in the early minutes of the 2nd half when Carminatti scored from AJ Jackson. The 2nd goal was assisted by Oscar Narvaez midway through the 2nd half. Barton kept the pressure on the Tigers with another goal less than 5 minutes as Martin Narvaez scored on an assist from James Neighbour. Luciano Brilho finished up the scoring on an assisted goal in the final 5 minutes of the contest.

The Cougars did not allow Cowley a shot in the opening half of action and the Tigers were only able to get off 2 shots in the 2nd half – neither of which was on goal. Barton had 40 shots in contest, putting 19 of goal.

The Cougars will be on the road Tuesday when they travel to Cowley for a 7:30 pm start time in a Region VI contest. Barton is currently tied for 2nd in the Region VI standings with 6 points, having played only 2 region contests. The Cougars are 1 of 4 unbeaten and untied teams remaining in the region. Hesston is 0-1 in the region and 1-4 overall.
