Barton rolls to 5-0 win; Dowling breaks career shutout record
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team was back to its winning ways this past weekend, rolling to a 5-0 win over Allen County in Jayhawk Conference play at Iola. Barton scored 2 times in the opening half and put the game away with 3 2nd half goals. The shutout was the 8th on the season for Barton, which improves to 11-0-1 with the win and 3-0-1 in the Jayhawk. It was the 18th for Barton sophomore Donovan Dowling, breaking the career mark for shutouts of 17 held by Craig Ratanamorn. Allen falls to 2-5-2 overall and 2-4-1 in the Jayhawk. Barton will be back to southeast Kansas Tuesday when the Cougars travel to Coffeyville for Jayhawk play.

Highlights
Barton took a 1-0 lead early in the game when Marcello Carminatti scored his 13th goal of the season on a pass from Leandro Reis. It was the 6th straight game Carminatti has scored a goal. During that 6-game span, the sophomore has scored 11 of his 13 goals. The Cougars pushed it to 2-0 at the midway point of the opening half when Harry Newman scored the 1st of 2 goals in the game on a Lynton Piertise assist.

Barton made it 3-0 with a Kyle Dubay goal early in the 2nd half. Tom Shaw had a goal and assists in the 2nd half and Oscar Narvaez assisted Newman’s 2nd goal to make it 5-0 with 14 minutes left in the contest. The Cougars defense limited the Red Devils to just 7 shots of which all 4 on goal were stymied by Donovan Dowling for his record breaking 18th career shutout. Dowling is tied with Ratanamorn, who preceded him at Barton, in single-season shutouts with the 10 Dowling turned in last year.

The Cougars will travel to Coffeyville to take on the 2-5-1 Red Ravens Tuesday in Jayhawk play. The Cougars are just 1 of 3 unbeaten teams remaining in the Jayhawk with Cloud County and Johnson County both unbeaten and untied. Barton will host Cloud Saturday at 4 pm.
