Barton soccer wins two more; vaults to No. 4 in latest NJCAA poll
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team rolled to two more wins over the weekend at the Garden City Classic. The Cougars beat Lincoln College (Ill) and Blue River (Mo) to move to 6-0 on the season. With the 6-0 start – including wins over 3 ranked teams – Barton shot up to No. 4 in the 1st poll released by the NJCAA since the preseason poll. Barton was ranked No. 13 in the preseason poll but earned wins over a pair of teams ranked in the top 6 and a total of 3 ranked in the preseason Top 15. Barton will be back at home Wednesday when the Cougars host Dodge City in the opening contest of Jayhawk Conference play.

Highlights
The Cougars led nearly the entire weekend, scoring in the 1st 5 minutes of Saturday’s win over Lincoln College and in the 1st 2 minutes of the win over Blue River Sunday – both goals by AJ Jackson. Jackson’s goal 5 minutes into the game Saturday came off a steal and a shot from 25 yards out. That was followed later in the opening half by a Martin Narvaez goal in similar fashion, stealing the ball, beat the defender and scored from 20 yards out. Barton concluded the scoring early in the 2nd half with an Oscar Narvaez goal on a direct free kick from 30 yards out.

Jackson again put Barton up 1-0 just 2 minutes into the win over Blue River. Barton scored 2 more times by half as Oscar Narvaez scored his 2nd goal of the Classic and Thiago Vasquez scored on Leandro Felicio’s 2nd assists of the contest. The Cougars continued to score in the 2nd half, adding 3 more goals as Felicio scored on 1 of 2 James Neighbour assists. Lynton Piertise and Tarek Khalidi each scored as well.

The Cougars will get their 1st taste of Jayhawk Conference action Wednesday when they play host to Dodge City at Cougar Fields. Barton is the defending Jayhawk Conference and Region VI champions.
