Barton knocks Cloud from unbeaten ranks in Jayhawk Conference
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team trimmed the number of unbeaten teams in the Jayhawk Conference standings to just two this past weekend with a 1-0 blanking of Cloud County at Cougar Fields in Great Bend. The win by the Cougars handed the Thunderbirds their 1st Jayhawk Conference loss of the season, falling to 6-1. That leaves Barton (5-0-1) and Johnson County (5-0). Those two teams will hook up at 3 pm Saturday at Cougar Fields with the winner of that contest controlling its own destiny for the Conference championship as well as the No. 1 seed in upcoming Region VI post season action. Barton, ranked No. 3 in the NJCAA, is now 13-0-1 on the season. Cloud falls to 10-4 overall. Barton will be on the road Wednesday in non conference play when the Cougars travel to Oklahoma.

Cougars win 2-0 at Coffeyville; move up to No. 3 in NJCAA poll
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team kept its unbeaten season intact and set up a showdown Saturday with the Jayhawk Conference leader. Barton won 2-0 at Coffeyville Tuesday to remain unbeaten at 12-0-1 on the year and a 4-0-1 mark in the Jayhawk Conference. Coffeyville fell to 2-6-1 and 0-5-1. The Cougars moved up one notch to No. 3 in the latest NJCAA poll bettering the best ranking in school history. Prior to this year, 6th was as high as the Barton men’s soccer program had reached.

Barton rolls to 5-0 win; Dowling breaks career shutout record
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team was back to its winning ways this past weekend, rolling to a 5-0 win over Allen County in Jayhawk Conference play at Iola. Barton scored 2 times in the opening half and put the game away with 3 2nd half goals. The shutout was the 8th on the season for Barton, which improves to 11-0-1 with the win and 3-0-1 in the Jayhawk. It was the 18th for Barton sophomore Donovan Dowling, breaking the career mark for shutouts of 17 held by Craig Ratanamorn. Allen falls to 2-5-2 overall and 2-4-1 in the Jayhawk. Barton will be back to southeast Kansas Tuesday when the Cougars travel to Coffeyville for Jayhawk play.

Barton and Garden battle to 1-1 tie in battle of Top 10 teams
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team left the field without a win Wednesday for the 1st time this season but the Cougars didn’t leave a loser either. Barton, ranked No. 4 in the NJCAA battled to a 1-1 tie with Jayhawk foe Garden City, ranked No. 8. Barton is now 10-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the Jayhawk while Garden is 7-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference. The tie broke Barton’s 25-game Jayhawk conference winning streak. The last time the Cougars failed to win a Jayhawk outing was – ironically – a 0-0 tie with Garden City in September of 2005. Barton still has a 28-game unbeaten streak intact in the conference and is 40-2-2 in Jayhawk play the past 6 years. All-time Barton is 51-8-5 in Jayhawk play.

Cougars earn win over Laramie to stay unbeaten for season
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team remained unbeaten with a big win over Laramie County (Wyom) Saturday night. The Cougars, ranked No. 4 in the NJCAA, won 3-1 over the Golden Eagles at Memorial Stadium in Great Bend. The Saturday night game drew nearly 300 people. Barton moved to 10-0 on the season with the win while Laramie – a playoff foe for the Cougars last season – fell to 7-2-1. Barton will battle another ranked foe this week as Garden City comes to Cougar Fields on the campus of Barton for 4 pm battle. Garden is ranked No. 10 and has a 7-0 mark for the season. The winner of the game will be the favorite to win the Jayhawk Conference and the No. 1 seed in the Region VI tournament at the conclusion of the regular season.

Barton keeps Jayhawk Conference winning streak alive with 6-0 win over Cowley
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team continued its recent dominance of the Jayhawk Conference with a 6-0 blanking of Cowley College Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Great Bend. Due to the heavy rain that fell a day earlier, the game was moved from Cougar Fields on the campus of Barton to the high school football stadium in Great Bend. Barton won its 25th straight Jayhawk Conference tilt in the process with its newest member Cowley becoming the latest victim in that string. Cowley is in its 1st year playing soccer. The No. 4 Cougars (2-0, 8-0) did not allow the Tigers a shot on goal the entire contest as Cowley (1-3, 1-3) managed just 2 shots in the game.

Cougars set school record for goals in 11-0 win; move to 7-0 on season
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team set a school record for most goals scored in game as well as largest margin of victory with an 11-0 blanking of Dodge City to start Jayhawk Conference play Wednesday at Cougar Fields. The previous record for most goals in a contest was 9 achieved on 6 different occasions. The No. 4 ranked Cougars will be back at home Saturday when they play host to Cowley College in a 4 pm start. The win was the 24th straight Jayhawk Conference win for the Cougars.

Barton soccer wins two more; vaults to No. 4 in latest NJCAA poll
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team rolled to two more wins over the weekend at the Garden City Classic. The Cougars beat Lincoln College (Ill) and Blue River (Mo) to move to 6-0 on the season. With the 6-0 start – including wins over 3 ranked teams – Barton shot up to No. 4 in the 1st poll released by the NJCAA since the preseason poll. Barton was ranked No. 13 in the preseason poll but earned wins over a pair of teams ranked in the top 6 and a total of 3 ranked in the preseason Top 15. Barton will be back at home Wednesday when the Cougars host Dodge City in the opening contest of Jayhawk Conference play.

Cougars knock off 3 ranked teams; stay unbeaten with 4-0 mark
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team had a big Labor Day weekend, knocking off 3 ranked teams on the way to a perfect mark at the Missouri Junior College Invitational this past weekend in St. Louis. Barton allowed just 1 goal on the weekend as the No. 13 Cougars ran their mark to 4-0 on the year with wins over the Nos. 5, 6, and 14 teams in the NJCAA pre-season poll. The next poll will not be released until next week when Barton stands a good chance of cracking the Top 10 if the Cougars can survive the Garden City Classic unbeaten this weekend.

Cougars win season opener; will play 3 ranked teams this weekend
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team was to have opened the 2008 season with a pair of games at the Barton Classic this past weekend but inclement weather on Sunday cut the event to Saturday’s play only. In that season opener Saturday at Cougar Fields, 13th ranked Cougars rolled to a 5-0 blanking of Western Nebraska. Barton was to take on No. 4 San Jacinto (Texas) Sunday. That contest will not be made up. Barton will be on the road this weekend when they travel to St. Louis to take part in the Missouri Junior College Invitational that will pit 4 ranked teams against each other.
