Exercise Science (Community Health) Curriculum Emphasis
Liberal Arts and Sciences

Exercise Science: Students who complete the bachelor’s of science degree requirements for Exercise Science are qualified to pursue a career in personal fitness training, nutrition counseling, collegiate coaching, collegiate and professional strength/conditioning programs, commercial or private health and fitness centers, aquatics facilities, hospital exercise and cardiac rehabilitation programs, medical assistance, corporate fitness centers, ergonomics, military fitness and training, or a variety of community health fields.

Community Health: Students who complete the degree requirements for Community Health are qualified to pursue a career in college or university education; or obtain employment with public health agencies (county, state, and federal), volunteer health agencies (American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, American Heart Association, American Lung Association), private ventures (consulting work, design health promotion software), patient education (hospitals, senior citizens, personal wellness), Centers for Disease Control, and Planned Parenthood or adoption agencies.

Exercise Science degrees also provide most, if not all, of the pre-requisites needed to pursue a career in several medical fields: Dentistry, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Technology, Orthopedic Assistant, Medicine (MD, DO, DC), Pharmacology, Physical Therapy, Physician's Assistant, Podiatry, Surgeon's Assistant or Surgical Technician.

A master’s of science degree in Exercise Science is often required to teach at institutions of higher learning; to complete research in exercise science, sports medicine, youth or adult fitness and wellness, and gerontology; or, pursue a career in sports psychology or sociology, psychomotor therapy, and recreational therapy.

Significant differences often occur between the curriculums offered among specific 4-year institutions. It is important to select a transfer college or university as soon as possible once choosing to major in Exercise Science.
