Phlebotomy Training

What is Phlebotomy Training?
Phlebotomists collect blood specimens for laboratory analysis. Proper collection and handling of specimens is the critical first step toward providing the Physician with information that can aid in diagnosis and treatment.

Who should consider Phlebotomy Training?
Becoming a Phlebotomy Technician can lead to a life-long career. Or, such training can be a stepping stone into Barton’s Medical Laboratory Technician Program.

Also, Phlebotomy training is a “value-added” elective for students in Nursing and Emergency Medical Services and Pre-Professional majors such as Pre-Medicine and Pre-Inhalation Therapy.

Skills/Training needed to become a Phlebotomist
Persons considering a career in Phlebotomy should have good hand-eye coordination and good interpersonal skills.

Barton’s 3-credit-hour Principles of Phlebotomy course supplies theory and introductory “hands-on” experience. If the student continues and completes the 1-credit-hour Phlebotomy Clinical they are eligible for national certification as a Phlebotomy Technician.

What is the occupational outlook for careers in phlebotomy?
Faster than average employment growth is expected as the volume of laboratory tests continues to increase with both population demographics and the development of new types of tests.

Why choose Barton’s Phlebotomy Training?
Barton’s Phlebotomy instructor is a certified Medical Technologist with years of experience in phlebotomy training. Barton offers the choice of traditional classroom or innovative online course delivery. Online students can solicit the support of a clinical partner or make arrangements to come to the Barton campus for the “hands-on” portion of the training.
