Hello! Thank you for your recent interest in the Medical Coding certificate program available 100% online at Barton County Community College. We are very excited about this new opportunity available to students! The coursework is offered through Bartonline, our online distance-education website at www.bartonline.org. To enroll in courses, you must visit the website and click on Log In and complete the registration process. If you are located close to Great Bend or Ft. Riley, you may have the option of taking some classes in the classroom. You can check the schedule of the campus nearest you to determine if that is a possibility. Attached is a template listing the courses required for the 32-credit hour Medical Coding certificate. The certificate consists of a variety of coursework that prepares students for the Certified Professional Coders (CPC) examination and/or a career as a coding professional. The Fall 2007 courses began August 20. The next set of online courses will begin in January 2008 and a schedule of these courses will be available later this year in November. If you wish to enroll in Medical Coding and/or Advanced Medical Coding without pursuing the certificate, that is perfectly acceptable. You are also able to enroll in as few or as many credit hours as you are comfortable with. If you want to complete the certificate in a year, you will need to take 12-15 credit hours a semester or you could also take some credit hours over the summer. If you are a student who would like to take one or two courses a semester, that is acceptable as well. You can do what is best for you as a student!!! Online courses are $125/credit hour and this cost does not include your book costs. Once you enroll in the courses, you will order your books online through MBSDirect. There is a link on the Bartonline website for you to do this. Please know that you must have a credit card to purchase your books online. You may apply for financial aid by visiting www.fafsa.org. If you are considering taking classes in January, I recommend that you visit the FAFSA website and complete your financial aid information as soon as possible. Doing so will expedite the process so that when you enroll in January, your financial aid will be in place. If you have enrolled in college courses before, some of those courses may count towards the 32-credit hour certificate in medical coding. To find out if those courses would count, you must have your official transcript sent from the college you attended to our Enrollment Services Office at Barton. The college you attended may charge a small fee for this process. Please have transcripts sent to: Enrollment Services Office If you have any additional questions regarding Medical Coding, please feel free to contact me. You may reach me by telephone at 620-792-9326 or 1-800-748-7594, Ext. 326, or by email at crockettc@bartonccc.edu Sincerely, Carol Crockett |
