Barton has a diverse student population in regard to age, ethnicity and place of origin. Students attending Barton range in age from under 18 to over 65. They come from varying ethnic backgrounds and they cross international boundaries with their differing cultures.
International flags line the ceiling of Barton Community College’s Student Union, representing the origins of the College’s international students. The flags symbolize the diversity of students that Barton brings together amidst the varied communities the College serves.
Barton students come from a wide range of ethnic groups – white, black, Hispanic, Asian, Alaskan Native, American Indian – as well as many foreign countries. They may be first-time or first-year students, continuing or former students, high school students, or transfer students.
Barton recognizes the importance of serving students of differing cultures and backgrounds. Barton’s Multi-Cultural Society, which exists for all Barton students, provides an inviting environment for developing leadership and social skills in their diverse surroundings.
The diversity of students on campus allows Barton’s students to experience the excitement of meeting people of varying cultures and nationalities, find challenging learning settings, and take advantage of those opportunities for personal growth.
