Academic Advising: Wait List Procedures & Guidelines

Important Student Information Wait List Procedure

What is a wait list?

A "wait list" is a list all the students who would like to enroll in a class at a specific time and location, but can't enroll because the class is full. The wait list of students will be in priority order according to the date and time the student requests to be placed on the list.

When should I ask to be placed on the wait list?

Request your advisor to place you on the wait list if any or all of these situations apply:

  • You must have the class for graduation
  • You need the class due to work schedule conflicts and no other classes are available
  • You are trying to cut travel expenses by coming to campus fewer days per week
  • You must have the class to stay on track with your program

How will I know if I make it off the "wait list" and into a closed class?

If a seat opens up and you are next on the priority list, you will be called by a college representative to see if you still want in the class. If you say "YES", you will be enrolled in the class. If you say "NO", you will be removed from the wait list.

Is there anything else I need to do if I say "yes"?

You will need to let the college representative know if you want this class to replace a class already on your schedule or if you want to add this class to your schedule. You may want to be sure that you are not enrolled in two of the same classes or more classes than you really want. Ask the representative to review your schedule.

A second thing you will need to do is immediately make arrangements to pay for the class if it is an additional class. If the class is a "replacement" for another class you were taking and is equal in credit hours and fees and your amount owed doesn't change, then you will need to do nothing. ASK if you have questions about your bill.

Finally, tell your advisor of the changes you have made!!!!!
