Academic Advising: Appropriate Courses for Developmental Students

LEVEL ONE

The level one developmental student is a student who is in all three developmental courses...Basic Applied Math, Basic Reading, and Basic English. Any student in two or more developmental classes MUST also be enrolled in Student Success Seminar. Developmental courses do not count towards graduation, but they must be taken so that the student can go on to take English Composition and College Algebra, which are requirements for graduation. It is important for the student to know that these classes need to be taken so that they will succeed in their future classes.

Their class schedule would look something like this:

Basic Applied Math 3 credits
Basic Reading 3 credits
Basic English 3 credits
Student Success Seminar ** 3 credits
Sport (if applicable) 1 credit
Weight Training (if applicable 1 credit
Choose one course or combination of Courses
to total three hours from the following:
 
Golf Bowling
Beginning Swimming Karate I or II
Drawing I Target Shooting
Weight Training Intermediate Swimming
Aqua Aerobics Gymnastics & Tumbling
Painting I or II Aerobic Dance I or II
Individual Art Projects (with instructor approval Keyboarding I or II
Band Watercolor Painting I or II
Choir Acting I
Private Voice Beginning Guitar
Vocal Ensemble Stage Band
Applied Piano C Vocal Ensemble

 

LEVEL TWO

The level two developmental student is a student who is in two or more of the following developmental courses: Basic Algebra, Intermediate Reading, and Intermediate English. Any student in two or more developmental courses MUST also be enrolled in Student Success Seminar unless they have already taken the course.

Their class schedule would look something like this:

Basic Algebra 3 credits
Intermediate Reading 3 credits
*Student Success Seminar
3 credits
Sport (if applicable) 1 credit
Weight Training (if applicable) 1 credit
Choose two course or combination of courses to        
total six hours from the following:
6 credits
ANy course listed in the level one section  
Personal and Community Health Lifetime Fitness and Wellness        
Interpersonal Communication Stagecraft
Intro to Health, PE, and Recreation First Aid Emergency Care
Rules & Officiating Introduction to Computers
Ceramics I or II Creative Visualization
Photography I or II Digital Image Editing
Computer Concepts  

LEVEL THREE

The level three developmental student is a student who is in only one developmental course.

Their class schedule would look something like this:

Developmental Course 3 credits
English Comp I 3 credits
(unless student is in developmental
English course)
College Algebra 3 credits
(unless student is in developmental
Math course)
Public Speaking or Interpersonal Communications 3 credits
Sport (if applicable) 1 credit
Weight Training (if applicable) 1 credit
Any course listed in the level one or two sections  
Art Appreciation Art History Survey I & II
Introduction to Music Introduction to Theatre
Any American or Western Civilzation History Course Introduction to Mass Media
Any Literature or Language Class Introduction to Broadcasting
Any Philosophy or Religion Class Introduction to Sociology
World & Regional Geography Cultural Anthropology
General Psychology Microeconomics
Marriage & Family Macroeconomics
Any Government or Politcal Science Course Accounting I or II
General Accounting Business Law
Introduction to Business
