ATHLETIC ADVISING

Those students who participate on various athletic squads may be required to enroll in specific activity courses recommended by their coaches in addition to their regular program of study. The following is a listing of such courses for specific teams.

Some important things to consider when advising athletes:

  • Student athletes should maintain a minimum of 12 hours each semester in order to remain eligible to compete.
  • Student athletes must satisfactorily complete a minimum of 48 hours of transferable degree credit with a 2.0 GPA and receive a degree to compete at the next level.
  • Student athletes who earn a A, B, or C or an equivalent grade in which the state/institution uses as a passing grade in remedial/developmental courses cannot repeat that course and have it count toward eligibility. Furthermore, student athletes cannot take remedial/developmental course, which is lower than a prerequisite to the one they have successfully passed and have it count toward eligibility.
  • Credit hours in remedial/developmental courses do count toward eligibility as long as the student makes satisfactory progress in the course.
  • Student athletes must pass 12 hours at 1.75 GPA to be eligible the following semester OR cumulative 12 hours x the number of full time semesters, i.e. 12 x 2= 24, 12x 3= 36, with a 1.75 GPA.
  • In addition student athletes beginning their 2nd year of competition must have completed 24 hours with a 2.0 GPA.
  • A student athlete may take up to 18 cumulative summer school hours; however, only 9 hours of summer school are allowed during the summer before they move on to the next level, i.e. Division I
