Barton Community College’s Lee Turner Lectureship Series will present the seminar, “Officer Down,” as its November 2010 session.

The Lee Turner Lectureship Series provides an opportunity for law enforcement personnel to meet continuing education requirements while gaining valuable training pertinent to their profession.

This course will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, in the college’s Learning Resource Center, L-136. Check-in will be at 8:30 a.m. Registration fee is $41, which includes training, one-half college credit, materials, refreshments and lunch.

Speakers will be a team of officers, investigators and prosecutors, speaking about the murder case of Greenwood County Sheriff Matt Samuels, and a team including Major Michael Oliver, Lt. Brad Hoch, Lt. David Mattingly and Sgt. Tim Myers, speaking about the Sedgwick County Deputy Brian Etheridge murder.

The team of officers will give a four-part presentation on the Samuels case including the shooting, entry/arrest, investigation and prosecution. The speakers for the Etheridge case will review the initial larceny report, the patrol response to the officer down call, SWAT deployment, the investigation of an incident involving local and federal law enforcement agencies, media relations, funeral and benefit planning.

The course meets requirements for certification of training for Kansas Law Enforcement Officers. Each participant will receive a certificate of attendance. Over the years, the Lee Turner Lectureship Series has given thousands of law officers and personnel training in new trends and techniques in law enforcement.
