Barton’s Summer Workshops Offer Opportunities to Learn New Skills

Barton Community College is accepting enrollments now for its summer workshops in Quickbooks (introduction), Skype, Dreamweaver, Word, Excel, Photoshop (digital composition), Photoshop (photo retouching) and Photoshop (digital painting). Barton business computer management instructor Deanna Stevens will teach Word and Excel. Word is offered from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, in the college’s Technical Building, T-117. Participants will gain tips and techniques for creating professional looking documents. Excel will meet from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 23, in T-117. Participants will learn spreadsheet creation, including formatting, merging, how to change column and row headers, how to use the sum function, and other tasks for sharing and analyzing data. The fee is $37 for each of these classes. If enrolling in two or more of these workshops, the fee would be $27 per workshop.

Instructor and coordinator of business/accounting Kathy Boeger will teach QuickBooks (Introduction) from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 14, in the Technical Building, T-117. Participants will gain an understanding of accounting concepts to design their own system. They will learn how to perform general ledger operations, bank reconciliation, reports, invoices and letters. Barton’s business technology and community education secretary Renetta Furrow will teach Skype from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 13, in the Technical Building, T-117. The fee for each of these workshops is $35. If enrolling in two or more of these workshops, the fee would be $25 per workshop.

Adobe certified instructor Dana Allison will teach the three Photoshop workshops from 5 to 7 p.m. June 14, 15 and 22 in the Technical Building, T-111. Photoshop (digital composition) will meet Tuesday, June 14. Participants will learn how to collect images make pixel selections, manipulate image layer content and incorporate type for professional and personal creative expression. Photoshop (retouching) will meet Wednesday, June 15. Participants will learn how to retouch heirlooms, edit time-worn pictures and enhance images for a portfolio. Photoshop (digital painting) will meet Wednesday, June 22. Participants will learn to digitally paint as though a digital brush were in their hand. The fee for each of these workshops is $37. If enrolling in two or more of these workshops, the fee would be $27 per workshop.

Allison also will teach Dreamweaver and Web Basics. The workshops will meet from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, June 28 and 29 in the Technical Building, T-111. The fee will be $79 for the two-session workshop. Participants will learn how to create and publish a website or edit their organization’s web pages. They will learn to structure a collection of pages, build pages adding text, images and interactive content, and publish to a web server.
