Barton Community College will hold a dedication and open house Aug. 12 to recognize the completion of construction on its campus. The public is encouraged to attend the Renovation Celebration. (Events and times are listed below.)
Barton’s Board of Trustees turned the dirt to begin the project in October 2008 and construction began a few weeks later to renovate Barton’s original three buildings that existed when the College opened in the fall of 1969: Learning Resource Center, Science and Math Building, and Technical Building.
Those three buildings have undergone marked transformation during the past 21 months. The improvements will be showcased during the Renovation Celebration, beginning with a dedication in the T-Building foyer at 2 p.m. Following the dedication, the College will provide guided tours to the public, taking people through the new and renovated spaces. Later in the evening, Barton will host an open house for the public, with tours beginning at the Technical Building. Simultaneous to the open house, the College is hosting a Great Bend Chamber of Commerce Business after Hours event that will take place in the Learning Resource Center.
Renovations have enhanced four career tech programs and upgraded Student Services facilities. The College’s Technical Building and its Science and Math Building were connected, which allowed for a new training facility for the Case New Holland Program and a new classroom area for the College’s Agriculture Program. The Technical Building now houses high-tech Nursing classrooms and simulation labs. Barton’s Automotive Technology facility was also improved and expanded.
