Barton Community College has announced recipients of the Keith and Marian Mull Honorarium Scholarships for the 2009-10 academic year. The Barton Community College Foundation raises funds for honorarium scholarships named each year in honor of an individual or individuals who have given generously to the college through their service and their gifts. The Mulls were honored through contributions to the honorarium with the traditional auctioning of the old buffalo head, “Old Bill,” at the 2007 Big Benefit Auction.

The following Barton students are recipients of the Keith and Marian Mull Honorarium Scholarships:

Great Bend

Briana Thomas, a 2009 graduate of Great Bend High School, is a freshman at Barton planning to major in nursing. Her scholarship is a $500 achievement award. In high school, she was active in track during her senior year. She is the daughter of Jean Schlitter and Rick Thomas, both of Great Bend.

Lawrence

Cheryl Witte, Lawrence, a graduate of Field Kindley Memorial High School in Coffeyville, is planning to major in nursing. Her scholarship is a $1,000 excellence award. She and her husband, Dorian, have three children, Ben, Sam and Eli.

Manhattan

Aaron Appel, a 2009 graduate of Manhattan High School, is a freshman at Barton majoring in business management. His scholarship is a $1,000 excellence award. In high school, he was active in soccer for four years. He was named All-American Regional Player and All-American Honorable Mention by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. He is the son of Jon and Sheri Appel, Manhattan.

Plainville

Lauren Buresh, a 2009 graduate of Plainville High School, is a freshman at Barton majoring in dental hygiene. Her scholarship is a $1,000 excellence award. In high school, she was active in volleyball, basketball, track, dance, cheer, band, choir, Student Council, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, all-school play, Prom Committee, Pep Club and Smoke Free Task Force. She earned membership in the National Honor Society. She was named to the honor roll all four years of high school and was named Most Inspirational Player in volleyball and basketball. She is the daughter of Steve and Mary Jo Buresh, Plainville.
