Barton Foundation’s Big Benefit Auction Takes on Ambience of Wine Country

Like good wine, the Barton Community College Foundation’s Big Benefit Auction just keeps getting better with age. In 32 years, many people have put in a lot of effort to make that happen, said Darnell Holopirek, Barton’s Executive Director of Institutional Advancement, as the Foundation prepares for this year’s event with the theme, “A Night in Napa.” The auction is the Foundation’s main fund-raiser for academic scholarships and program enhancements.

Foundations Boost Barton’s Nursing Faculty With Matching Grants

A year and a half after helping secure matching grant funds to bolster Barton Community College’s nursing faculty, representatives of Central Kansas Medical Center and Clara Barton Hospital Foundations and the Barton Community College Foundation toured the College’s new nursing facility and met the new faculty member whose position was made possible by the grant.

Business Community Establishes College’s Early Endowment Association

Sept. 16, 2009
Barton Community College Foundation owes its beginning to two business competitors who also were friends and shared a similar vision for a recently approved community college that was yet to be built. Insurance business owner Bruce Buehler, along with Grant Hoener, an agent with New York Life Insurance, believed that the upstart college needed an endowment association to help make it accessible to all area students. In early 1967, they visited with Board of Trustees Chairman Joe Mermis Jr., and he agreed.

Barton's Silver Cougar Club Still Growing After Eight Years

Barton Community College's Silver Cougar Club, specifically for people age 55 or older, has grown steadily since its beginning in 2001 with a nucleus of 12 members. Eight years later, at the time of its June picnic and membership drive, the club boasted more than 577.
