Cox Communications initiated a $1,000 scholarship to Barton Community College, which has been awarded this academic year. Wednesday, Cox Manager of Government Affairs for Kansas Reynaldo Mesa announced the award will be given annually.
“Our company focus is youth, technology and education, so it’s fitting that we give to the College because we believe in helping our youth achieve higher education. This is something we enjoy doing.”
Barton’s Executive Director of Institutional Advancement Darnell Holopirek said the annual scholarship will be awarded to a student who is pursuing a major with an emphasis in technology or communications.
“Great Bend is a good community for us,” said Mesa. “We have our office here, we have infrastructure network here, and we plan on being in this community for many years to come.”
Cox Communications is the third-largest cable television provider in the United States, serving more than 5.9 million customers, as well as 3.5 million Internet subscribers, and 2.2 million digital telephone subscribers. Cox is an area service provider for Great Bend, Hoisington, Larned, Lyons and Sterling.
