Barton Community College art students Karen Shaner and Petr Grigor’ev are exhibiting their artwork now through February in the display cases in the college’s Fine Arts Building lobby. Barton art instructor Steve Dudek selected the artists to exhibit their work as part of an ongoing series of student exhibits in the display cases.

A graduate of Barton, Shaner has been taking art classes from Barton instructor Steve Dudek for the past three years. In this exhibit, she is showing her watercolor paintings. She likes to work in several different styles including figurative, abstract and realistic. Her work also includes digital photography and mixed media.

Shaner came to Great Bend from Salina where she was an engineer for Union Pacific. She began taking art classes at Barton three years ago as an activity for stress relief and soon realized her talent and sense of enjoyment in creating art.

Grigor’ev is showing watercolor paintings and mixed media in the display cases. He came from Russia to play tennis for Barton three years ago, but soon found his true calling as an artist. Dudek’s class was the first art class Grigor’ev had ever taken and he credits the instructor for helping him develop his artistic talent.

Both artists have exhibited their work in Barton Student Art Exhibitions at the Shafer Gallery and in other local, area and regional shows.
