FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Release prepared by: Linda Jerke

Barton Community College will offer an Organizational Development Training Series in October and November. The four-part series is set from 8 to 11 a.m. on Thursdays,

Oct. 15, Oct. 29, Nov. 5 and Nov. 19, in the college’s Fine Arts Seminar Room, F-30.

The following topics will be presented:

“Leading Across the Generations,” Oct. 15 – Generational differences are one of the greatest challenges facing managers today, and can be a top cause of employee dissatisfaction. For the first time in history, there are four generations in the workplace today. Each generation brings its own specific values and needs. The greatest opportunity for today’s leaders to grow their businesses profit¬ably and satisfy their customers lies in fully “engaging” all of their people. Learn how to maximize the contributions of every person on your team by creating a workplace that is compelling to all generations. Leaders embracing generational differences can become talent magnets to all generations.

“Making Meetings Work,” Oct. 29 – Most people say they hate meetings, but what they really dislike are unproductive, poorly run meetings. Meetings are a great tool for achieving business results when the right people meet with a clear purpose and specific agenda. This course helps leaders save time and resources by leading meetings that support business needs. Leaders learn how to plan, facilitate, and follow up on meetings (including virtual meetings) to ensure that there is a payoff for the time invested in meetings.

“The Influence Edge™,” Nov. 5 – Today’s complex work environment requires us to work closely with others to accomplish our objectives. It means developing influence skills that allow us to deal more effectively with people we report to and people who report to us. The same skills help us work with suppliers, vendors, customers, team members, contractors, and even competitors. The Influence Edge™ helps managers learn a strategy and 11 effective influence behaviors to improve communication and give you the edge to accomplish your results and build more productive business relationships.

“Now, Discover Your Strengths,” Nov. 29 – Most of us have little sense of our talents and strengths, much less the ability to build our lives around them. Instead, guided by our parents, by our teachers, by our managers and by psychology’s fascination with pa¬thology, we become experts in our weaknesses and spend our lives trying to repair these flaws, while our strengths lie dormant and neglected. Now is the time to understand your strengths and the strengths of your workforce to leverage them for powerful results.

Fees for the series are $99 per session or $360 for all four sessions. To register for the sessions, contact Workforce Training and Economic Development Coordinator Kala Steffen by phone, 620-792-9332 or 866-813-2462, or by e-mail, steffenk@bartonccc.edu.
