The Barton Community College Forensics Team traveled to Hutchinson Community College Nov. 7 and 8 to compete in the Blue Dragon and Alumni Swing Tournament.

On Saturday’s half of the competition Wes Young, Kansas City freshman, placed third in Poetry Interpretation; Dani Bullard, Hoisington sophomore, placed fifth in Impromptu Speaking; and Kris Schneider, Hoisington sophomore, placed third in Program of Oral Interpretation, third in Prose Interpretation, and third in Dramatic Interpretation.

Joined by sophomores Lyle Jones, Seward, and Caitlyn Newkirk, Ellinwood, the team became champion in the Community College Team Sweepstakes. Schneider’s placing in Program of Oral Interpretation qualified him for nationals in that event.

On Sunday’s half of the competition, Young placed sixth in Poetry Interpretation and Schneider was the tournament champion in Dramatic Interpretation, qualifying him for nationals in that event. Overall, for the Sunday tournament, Young and Schneider, joined by Bullard, placed third in Community College Team Sweepstakes.

Barton’s Forensics Team next competes Dec. 5 and 6 in the Outer Limits Swing Tournament at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
