Barton Community College opened its doors to students for the first time 40 years ago this fall. Barton will celebrate this milestone by incorporating its 40th anniversary themes into the College's activities and events throughout its 2009-10 academic year.
Student success, access and affordability spanning 40 years will be the continuing theme throughout the year. In addition, the College will take the opportunity to showcase its role as a major factor in the economic well-being of the communities it serves.
Barton will celebrate the anniversary through cultural events such as Shafer Gallery exhibits and music and theatre presentations; Barton Foundation events including the Big Benefit Auction and Silver Cougar Club activities; athletic events; and commencement festivities.
In addition, the College's Board of Trustees will recognize those who have played an integral role with the College through its history and invite them to be honored guests at monthly board meetings. The College will release monthly articles featuring the Board's guests and their importance to the College.
Barton also will release feature articles telling the stories of individuals and families who have benefited from the College's educational offerings through many years. The College has produced a 40th anniversary video, which will be released this month.
