Barton Community College music students presented their first recital of the school year Oct. 27, and at the same time, were preparing for competition in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Regional Student Auditions set for Oct. 29-31 at Kansas State University.

Voice student Cory Divilbiss, Great Bend sophomore music major, is competing in the NATS Auditions with other college sophomore men from Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming. To enter the competition, Divilbiss has prepared three vocal solos: one aria from an opera or an oratorio, one English art song, and one foreign language art song. He performed two of his songs in the recital.

Three area high school students, who are competing in the NATS Regional Student Auditions in the high school divisions, performed in the Oct. 27 recital as guest soloists. These students are Rose Radenberg of Claflin, a student of Betty Erikson, and Dylan Donovan and Shawntay Broadnax, both of Hoisington, students of Glenna Gaunt.

Additionally in the recital, Jared Poppelreiter, Ellinwood sophomore music major, performed a piano solo, and Dr. Edward Jones, Great Bend, and J.W. Feemster, Ellinwood freshman music major, presented vocal solos.

The program also included a string ensemble made up of Steve Lueth, Barton’s instrumental instructor, on piano; Robert Feldt, member of Barton’s Board of Trustees, on violin; Bob Marqueling, retired Great Bend music instructor, on cello; Eleanor Ramsey retired Great Bend music instructor, on viola; Brooke Smith, Great Bend freshman music major, Amber Dowson, Great Bend freshman, and Greg Pohl, Great Bend freshman music major, all on violin.
