Barton Community College’s Community Student Organization is accepting items or monetary donations to provide care kits for the Haiti earthquake survivors.

Each care kit will contain one new hand towel, one new washcloth, one small bottle of shampoo, one new individually wrapped toothbrush, one travel-size tube of toothpaste, 10 adhesive bandages, one individually wrapped bath-size bar of soap, one plastic travel-size soap dish, and two one-gallon-size zipper seal bags.

CSO members will be accepting donations of these items or monetary donations for the Haiti project at Barton’s next two basketball games – Barton’s Homecoming game Feb. 13 (Barton vs. Butler) and the Feb. 24 game (Barton vs. Colby). Students will have a table set up in the southwest corner of the gymnasium for accepting the donations. Monetary donations will be used for shipment expenses or for purchasing additional items to fill the care kits.

On campus, Barton employees in each building will be competing with fellow employees in other buildings to see which building can contribute the most items. Employees can drop off the items at boxes located in each building or take them to Room T-137 in the Technical Building.

“The students in our Community Student Organization want to use these donations to help as many Haiti earthquake survivors as they can possibly help,” said Kathy Boeger, Barton technical accounting/accounting instructor, who co-sponsors the group along with Shanna Legleiter, Barton’s instructor/coordinator of office technology.

The deadline for receiving the donations is Feb. 26. The students then will finish assembling the care kits and send them on to Heart to Heart International to be delivered to the Haiti earthquake survivors. For more information, contact Boeger, 620-792-9203 or Legleiter, 620-792-9398.
