Barton Community College is proud to have a strong partnership with Western Kansas Surgical Specialists in Great Bend. This company currently employs three Barton graduates and soon-to-be graduate, Cassie Niedens.   Hired to serve as a secretary through an internship, Cassie provides administrative support in the office on a part-time basis while completing her degree requirements for Medical Administrative Technology. Cassie is also pursuing a certificate in Medical Coding which allows her to specialize her skills in the medical administrative area. “She caught on so well, and I know she’s only going to get better, “ Registered Nurse Lori Slater of WKSS said. “Barton allows the business community to get involved in the education process. You can tell that’s been successful because the students I’ve hired have me tour needs very well.” Slater further commented, “Barton hires quality instructors who have actual knowledge of the industry they teach. Their work is excellent.”

The Medical Administrative Technology program is very fortunate to have a strong advisory board which contain members from the community who have a voice about education. Shanna Legleiter, Instructor/Coordinator of the Medical Administrative Technology program shares, “Having a strong advisory board is paramount in a program such as this. It allows instructors to ensure that we are teaching the skills that the employers need in the workforce. It gives the employers a strong voice and opinion about what is important to them, which in turn, is important to us. We are fortunate to have the people serving us because they serve the College well.”
