Barton County Community Junior College hosted a gathering of junior college secretaries from across the State of Kansas in 1968. As a result of this meeting the 'Kansas Community College Education Secretaries Association' was formed in 1969. During these early years office personnel from our campus regularly attended the annual KCCESA state conferences. It wasn't until the mid 1970’s the BCCJC office workers officially organized as a campus group, claimed the name “Very Important Personnel”, and hosted state conferences in 1976 and 1987.
In April of 1991, the name of the Kansas state organization was changed to 'Association of Kansas Community College Office Professionals'. VIP members decided their name should reflect that of the state organization. So, it was as "Barton County Community College Office Professionals" that a new mission statement and by-laws were adopted in the summer of 1996. BCCCOP hosted the 2000 state AKCCOP conference here on the Barton campus.
Another opportunity arose in 2008 when the college developed a new brand and began to refer to itself as 'Barton Community College' for marketing purposes, adopting the nickname 'Barton'. In response to this change the members voted to shorten our organizational name to "Barton Office Professionals".
For over 40 years our college office professionals
have worked, played, and traveled together to communicate, cooperate,
promote professionalism, accomplish service projects, and build strong friendships.
